This tells the story of Blake and Steph. Blake is newly retired from the police force, going through a divorce and is struggling to feel useful and occupied in retirement. She is spending the summer at a campsite that her friends have used for years. It just so happens that it has changed ownership recently and is now owned by the cop who mentored her when she was a rookie. And made her life hell. He shows no signs of having changed. Her first day on the job there had been a body found at the bottom of a local gorge.
Much of the story is just the friends hanging out which isn’t really a slow burn with Steph at all. Then bodies start piling up at the location of the original gorge fall.
Then it turns into a whodunnit!
The actual guilty party is such a small insignificant part of the lead up story that it feels a bit unfair to the reader – not giving them a fair chance of figuring out who did it with no real clues provided.
This story meanders through the summer and then concludes without a bit in between! You wait for the story to begin and then it finishes.
