I listened to this so the story was a little disjointed for me as it was spread out over a week or so of car journeys. And at about 9 1/2 hours there was a lot to keep track of. But it was well worth it.
Meet the ice queen academic professor who struggles to get past the trauma of her childhood and allow herself to be present in her day to day life and view it as anything but a battlefield.
She seems to always be at war with the administration, her colleagues and students.
A further history of trauma within her department as a woman scholar is also revealed. Yes, the men were vile and directed all manner of revolting behaviours towards her.
A series of events happen that she connects together and her fright causes her to unravel a little. This is made more so as no one believes her.
In the midst of this she somehow has managed to find a woman who whilst interested in a relationship with her, also thinks she is a little unhinged and needs to deal with her issues.
The story emerges as having been not one orchestrated campaign against her, but different issues coming at her from all angles.
This story is a masterpiece in unleashing a whirlwind of events, affecting all areas of her life, where we see life inflicting a multitude of wounds on an already wounded, scarred woman, who we see with help, picking herself up and moving forward to a brighter future. And having therapy.
