This is a enemies to lovers, second chance story.
It is a story based on something that seems to be really popular in the books I read at the moment. That is when one character vanishes from the life of the other without saying anything and then tells the other when asked ‘you know what you did’. Only they never seem to know, and the question is never answered until the big reveal and they can start to get back together again.
In this case, Destiny appears to have no idea what the matter was/is and when it is revealed we know why.
Interestingly they appear, when not speaking, to be stuck overnight hiding in a hut from some vicious guard dogs which forces them to talk. I think it would force me to have a nap and see about dangling my ex out of the window to distract the dogs while I legged it. But I am obviously not a nice person.
But they used the time to talk and figure out what had gone wrong so they can move forward.
There is a lot of gardening in this book – to be expected when it is set in the cut throat world of Texan landscaping, but either Jamey Moody likes gardening or she has had to learn about it!
There is an epilogue in all but name – that is set 10 years on which is nice.
I wasn’t sure about this book at the beginning. I thought at about 33% that it would have made a good novella, but I always finish books as they can grow on you and by the end of it, I was glad I had read it and enjoyed it
