Root, Alyson – Sleigh Bells Ring

I thought I would go festive this year – I normally studiously avoid Christmas books. I had been reading this for a few minutes when a voice in my head declared ‘Oh. It’s funny!’ and it most definitely is. For reference this was the ‘I thought we were going to have to pop your eyeballs back in there for a minute kid’.
Nic is a firefighter who goes home for Christmas every year for 25 days of family festive fun. Yes. 25 days. No wonder previous girlfriends had found that a bit much.
Nic, her older sister Beth and brother Liam (who had a brain injury causing a permanent developmental delay) operate Operation Sleigh Bells every year – to determine where the bells they hear are being operated from.
Mum runs a coffee shop – this year it is very busy as new hire Niamh has been managing the social media. Niamh is also Liam’s best friend and the source of the popping eyeballs from Nic. Niamh seems to be dating someone, but is it serious?

This book is fun, kind, inclusive and very funny. And if you ever wanted to know some of the sexual positions possible when your girlfriend has firefighter arms it is probably quite informative too. Are you a failure in life if you decide to move back to your home town? Absolutely not.

There is of course an epilogue – even if it doesn’t carry that badge. This looks at the possibilities of life.
Read it – there will be much laughter.
