This was an amazing story!
It is set in Utah in 1852 – a time and place I had no idea I would enjoy, but I most certainly did.
Abby is teacher on a train travelling to the new town of Promise to join her husband who went out to set up the town and be the pastor. She comes from the strict religious town of Stillwater where she was the pastor’s daughter.
She has an encounter on the train which derails her life as she is taken from the train to a deserted town in the desert where she is to remain until her husband pays for her release. She is surprised to meet her captor and realise she has been kidnapped by a woman. A very capable, sexy woman who has 2 children and a young man with a possible brain injury with her.
She manages to settle in with them after a few escape attempts and together they make a family of 5.
You would think men would realise that leaving your wife with an outlaw woman for a couple of weeks isn’t going to go well for you – she will not want to be rescued. Regardless of this, the transaction goes ahead – with some unexpected consequences for all involved.
This story is not yet finished within the first book – Book 2 – Exodus – continues on with the story. I will have to read that next as I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
