I didn’t intend to read this until I wanted to read book 4 and it would not have made sense to start there. So I decided to start at the beginning and read my way through. It took me a while to read myself into it, but when I got there I enjoyed it.
Ryan (secret service) seems to work at a couple of different, related jobs – sort of different departments. She has an ongoing ‘arrangement ‘ with Lucia a cop. Lucia wants a serious relationship – Ryan is still unsure that she, herself, is relationship material.
Allison (also secret service) is her ex. She moved area to a different post and ended their relationship.
Allison arrives back to do a specific job – and has to work with Ryan. This sort of puts the cat among the pigeons of Ryan’s life. They still have chemistry. They reunite. They talk and iron out some of their previous difficulties and misunderstandings. Allison has to leave to go to the next job – and Ryan is unsure where they stand.
There’s a lot of secret service tasks and jargon and a shooting – Ryan is injured and someone else killed.
Written by someone with a secret service background I find interest in all of the mundane tasks that are completed in the story – the admin and things that need to be done in order for everything to run smoothly.
This might sound confusing – but I am confident I have enough knowledge to move on to book 2 – which I am now reading and enjoying.
