Now these short novellas pack a lot of activity in their short page count.
This is the 3rd in the series set in this small hospital. It should carry a warning for lesbians (as should other series of Emily Hayes) – if it existed. So many women whose wives/girlfriends have been killed and they are never going to love again. All of those damaged women.
Doctors and fire fighters – both emergency services. What could go wrong.
I wondered why one of the main characters, the fire fighter, was called Scotti – maybe it’s an American name? Or is it so that the doctor can call her in the middle of the night and the call go unanswered? and then when a man calls back perhaps something bad has happened as Scotti didn’t answer her own phone. Maybe she’s been injured in a fire. Nope. She misdialled and called her friend Scott instead.
And doesn’t the Captain know not to tell Scotti that he has seen Naomi at the therapist’s office? Doesn’t he know what happens in the therapist’s waiting room stays there?
Anyway they eventually get trapped in a fire together and can see no way out. They come to in the ER. So they have been rescued and declare their undying love.
I am not happy with this epilogue though.
It’s not their wedding. It’s their wedding anniversary. And they have a child. And all of the people they whose lives they have saved are there.
One small grumble. There are so many small mistakes from lack of good editing, my brain struggles with it. Maybe monthly releases are too quick a turnover. Send me a copy to proof read – I’ll catch them all.
