This is book 8.
A reminder that all of these women in these stories are older – the youngest are I think in their 40s.
This is good for the representation of older women in relationships and being seen as sexual beings. If you can see it in fiction then you can be it?
This story is not all about the Rector’s wedding though. There are many tother things going on in their lives.
The whole concept of what Lucy has been writing about in her PhD is explored – religion, sex and relationships – including the idea of not waiting for marriage makes interesting reading.
The couple under the microscope in this story are Sam and Maggie. This is interesting not just for their age but also because of the ideas other people have about their relationship. As with most groups that have a limited amount of players, it can feel a little incestuous at times – especially when lesbians have a habit of remaining friends with their exes and developing their extended found family. Here, being a small community within a small town community makes it stand out more perhaps.
Everyday life is also shown with the Ukraine War mentioned and covid still being an issue.
Recommended.
