This book has been sat waiting for me to read it. And it came to the top of my pile.
Had I known it was the starter for a series I would probably have got to it earlier. As I do love a series.
This story has many aspects to it that meant I enjoyed it.
It is well written and conveys emotion very well.
It features a number of women – all of whom so far are at least in their 50s.
Although the book is devoted to telling the story of Liz and Maggie, there are other characters bobbing about – who spring to life in future books.
It swirls together small town living, everybody knowing your business, a second chance romance, with a cast that, especially over the course of the series, makes it seem as if more than 50% of the town are lesbian/bi.
When I got to the middle of this book I really struggled for a while. I had to put it down and think whether I wanted to continue with it. This is not the fault of the book. But I’ve just had 2 years of breast cancer treatment and it was hitting a bit too close to home for me. Although it was at least a different type of breast cancer. But I gave myself a talking to and read on. And I’m glad I did, because apart from being integral to the story I think it helped me process things I didn’t know I needed to. And it also gave me another perspective on it all.
There is a lot of emotion in this – fear is portrayed well – and not just in the woman with cancer but those around her.
There is a lot of well researched information in this story – medical knowledge, cancer knowledge and philosophy. So a lot of work must have gone into this.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
