I loved this.
A female Sherlock Holmes (named Stetson) who masquerades as both the female receptionist/admin and the male detective. This therefore gives her another persona – herself who looks nothing like either character.
Set in Victorian London, clients come to the agency, present their problem to Miss Goody who vanishes to the back office to ask ‘Xavier Wellington’ how to proceed and then tells the client he will take the case.
The backroom is a formidable repository of outfits, disguises, tools, tests and gives her to ability to move through the streets of London in character – either being well respected or fading into the background. And cases are always solved.
She also happens to be a lesbian do there are a couple of women that she meets along the way.
This collection of short stories is quite delightful. They are light hearted, amusing, and you know that the baddy is going to get what they deserve.
But will Stetson get what she longs for and deserves too?
