I am in total awe regarding the level of research and the depth of knowledge and detail that is in this book. And to keep all of that information at a level accessible to the reader who knows nothing about planes and mechanics and flying organisations. Not to mention the general war time knowledge required.
I do like historical faction – and this has a great story to situate it in as well.
I read it in one sitting – Beryl and Odette kept me interested. A very clever way of introducing Odette to the story – whilst exploring the awakening desires of 16 year old Beryl.
The emotions were well written – not just within the will they/won’t they relationship, but also about their fear of discovery, and the fear of losing each other and their friends/family through their wartime activities. And just being in the wrong place when bombs were dropping.
Well played.
