This was a book I didn’t know I needed to read. It is funny, intriguing, is a combination of real world places and facts, with some new world building added to it, and some fact stretching regarding the history and current monarchy. London has new areas and sights effortlessly added to what is actually there.
When Rose (a DC) is constantly followed at night by a mystery woman in heels, she becomes embroiled in a mystery and secrets. And also a relationship with the Nightingale.
A sapphic secret service that answers only to the Queen of England – what a delight. A whole array of women take part, some in place in institutions such as the police, others seem only to be employed by ‘the Circle’. The Circle is led by the ‘Nightingale’. Rose is invited to join the Circle as they battle to take down a social media billionaire. Who just so happens to be Rose’s uncle.
It is fun espionage, with the aim of doing what is right for the people – and the Queen.
There is of course an epilogue.
This shows the extent of the reach of the Circle and how it could go forward in the future. And why it was necessary to take down the billionaire.
I can only be hopeful that this will be the starter for a series of Circle adventures for the Nightingale and Rose. It would be a terrible waste of imagination and the creating of a new ‘improved’ London and history for it just to stop here.
