I was looking forward to this book as I had read, and LOVED the first book. This sequel most definitely did not disappoint.
Strictly speaking you could read this as a standalone as there is enough information in the beginning for you to get a quick masterclass – but why deny yourself the pleasure of The Curious Case of Cordelia Wainwright?
Life in the Wainwright-Taylor house has changed with the addition of baby William.
This book shows you how Cordelia learns to navigate her way through difficult times, prioritising her relationship with Aubrey, William and Ophy. If something could be misconstrued it will be – and Cordy will be funny, sweet or endearing in her explanations of why she had done something.
This also covers some of the previous book’s highlights from a different perspective – which are funny – for example there is a hilarious run through of Aubrey’s lessons for Cordelia in the art of sex. There are also moments when you can completely understand Cordy’s worries and where she is coming from when she reacts to situations in what could be said to be an unusual manner.
They also show some of the difficulties in undertaking IVF treatment to add to their family.
There is both a prologue and epilogue in this book. These signify the importance of Cordelia and Aubrey to each other at the beginning and then at the end how they have evolved their characters furthering the closeness of their relationship.
This book shows such character development in Cordelia – by the end she is no longer the Cordelia we met in the first book. She is most definitely Cordy, a wife and mother who shows her affection freely to her loved ones (albeit sometimes in unusual ways).
There is so much to pay attention to in the lives of these women and their family – I read it twice and still laughed my way through the second reading.
This series is thought provoking, funny, witty, sad, exasperating, but most of all a joy to read.
I understand there is at least one more just waiting to be written. I can’t wait!
