I have never in my life been interested in zombies or reading about them. But I never read the blurb
so I often have no idea what a book I am about to read is about. I get to read loads of things I maybe wouldn’t have done.
This book was absolutely 5 stars. It was interesting, I could picture what was happening, the relationship between Saff and Maddy was a masterclass in slow burn, and when it came to the end I needed to know what happened but could barely force myself to read it. How was it possible to put such emotion into a book about zombies?! Yes, I know, the zombies were not the main characters, but I had not expected the depth of emotion that was heaped upon the page.
The character of Maddy was interesting. Of all the people to survive a zombie apocalypse you probably did not imagine that it would be a blind woman using a white cane. She may not have been able to see them coming but she most certainly was not helpless. She brought many skills and abilities that complemented those of Saff. I like books with active disability representation built into the characters – so they just exist and get on with it alongside the others.
This book should be read .
